Xbox and Game Pass picks for a full party

Xbox has a real advantage for group gaming: Game Pass. Several of the best games to play with friends on Xbox are included in the subscription, so a group can try co-op and party games without everyone buying in. This list covers the strongest Xbox group games, with a note on which are commonly on Game Pass, plus the crossplay picks that bridge to PS5, PC, and Switch.

Our top Xbox pick is Minecraft - it has the widest crossplay of any game (PS5, Switch, PC, mobile), is a longtime Game Pass staple, and works for any age or group size. Call of Duty and Diablo IV are the crossplay online picks, Deep Rock Galactic and Overcooked cover co-op and party, and Sea-of-chaos titles like Human: Fall Flat and Fall Guys round out a party night.

Game Pass matters for groups

Many of these titles rotate through Xbox Game Pass, which means a group can jump into a co-op game together at no extra cost if one or more of you subscribe - always confirm current Game Pass availability on the Xbox store, since the lineup changes. Whether a subscription is the right spend for your group at all - and which games need one to play online - is worked through in our free vs paid breakdown. For mixed-platform groups, the Xbox + PS5 page lists exactly which of these bridge to PlayStation, and Game Pass games with crossplay narrows it to the titles that were actually in the catalog on a stated check date.

One to skip

Deep Rock Galactic is superb on Xbox and crossplays with PC - but not with PlayStation. If your group is split between Xbox and PS5, it won't connect you. For a guaranteed Xbox-and-PS5 co-op night, Diablo IV or Minecraft is the safer pick.

The picks, in depth

Minecraft

SwitchPS5XboxPCMobileCrossplay: Yes - Bedrock crossplay across all platforms

Best for: A mixed group that wants to build or survive together, any devices.

1-8+ players, online + local · Sandbox / survival

The Bedrock edition plays crossplatform across phone, console, and PC, so it is the default answer when your group is on wildly different hardware. Endless, low-pressure, and works for kids and adults alike. Java edition (PC-only) does not crossplay with Bedrock - buy the console/mobile version for mixed groups.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7

PS5XboxPCCrossplay: Yes - full crossplay

Best for: A competitive group across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.

2 split-screen on console, up to 40 online · Shooter

The current Call of Duty, and still full crossplay across all three big platforms - plus a co-op campaign and round-based Zombies if you would rather team up than compete. It is a big install and a big commitment, so it is overkill for a casual one-night session and ideal for a regular crew. Amazon carries the Xbox and PC digital code; PS5 players buy it on the PlayStation Store.

Diablo IV

PS5XboxPCCrossplay: Yes - full crossplay + cross-progression

Best for: A group across different consoles that wants a shared long-haul RPG.

1-4 co-op, online · Action RPG

Full crossplay and cross-progression, so your group can play together regardless of platform and even swap devices mid-season. Split-screen exists on console too. It is a live-service grind, so best for a crew that plays regularly, not a one-off.

Deep Rock Galactic

PS5XboxPCCrossplay: Xbox + PC crossplay - Microsoft Store only, not Steam

Best for: A crew of up to four dwarves who want procedural co-op mining.

1-4 online co-op · Co-op shooter

Rock and Stone - four-player co-op cave shooting with destructible tunnels and real teamwork. Check where you buy it before you buy it: Ghost Ship's own crossplay page says Xbox and the Microsoft Store PC version play together, the Steam version does not crossplay at all, and PlayStation is a separate pool again. Endlessly replayable and often cheap.

Best for: A group of 2-4 that wants controlled chaos and a lot of yelling.

1-4 players, online + local · Party co-op

Both Overcooked games remastered with full crossplay across every platform - genuinely the easiest way to get four friends on four different systems cooking together. Local and online. It will test friendships; that's the point.

Human: Fall Flat

SwitchPS5XboxPCMobileCrossplay: Yes - crossplay across platforms

Best for: A group that wants cheap, silly physics-puzzle chaos, any platform.

1-8 online + local co-op · Physics puzzle party

Wobbly-physics co-op puzzles for up to eight with crossplay - one of the best value party picks going, and frequently discounted. The humor comes from failure. Not a deep game, and that is the appeal.

Best for: A group that likes loot grinding and can play on the same platform.

1-4 co-op, online + split-screen · Looter-shooter

Four-player looter-shooter co-op with split-screen for couch play - a lot of game for the money, especially the Ultimate Edition. No crossplay, so line up your platforms first. Great for a crew that wants a long shared campaign.
